So did you ever wonder what really is in that "Fast Food" burger you are eating every day for lunch?  Would you believe that a large majority of people don't even want to know what is in their food?  Does that even make sense?  It is a fact, one that has been proven to be true time and time again, "You ARE what you EAT!"  Take a look at this little cartoon short.  You may be surprised.

It seems that in the modern world, everything now seems to be about:

FAST, EASY & CHEAP?

The Food We Eat Really Does Matter!

In a world where our food supply is so tainted, not to mention less nutritious due to the use of herbicides and pesticides destroying the minerals in the ground that are necessary for growing healthy food supplies; we need to make better choices for our food, and also use supplementation as a way to be sure of getting the proper nutrients.  The supplements I use, in my opinion, and according to the tests done on them, are some of the best of the best in pure nutrients.  Do you know what is in your supplements and how they are made?  We do!

Most people wouldn't even think of going out in public before they took their daily shower.  Besides, it just feels good when our skin and hair is clean.  The question is, if it feels so good when we are clean on the outside, how much better does it feel when we are clean on the inside?  Does it make a difference?

When you cleanse you body, you can help undo years of damage due to toxic build up.  Let's face it, we put lots of toxic food in our bodies, we breathe toxic air, we drink toxic water laced with chlorine and fluoride, and we wonder why we have low energy, allergies, and lots of other health problems.  Toxicity is really a problem in todays world.

In the U.S., cleansing became a popular practice during the 1920s and 1930s, but it actually dates back to ancient Greece. Today, it is a practice done by a large number of people who accept that proper digestion is crucial for maintaining overall health and wellness.

When our digestion is working properly, all of the food we eat is broken down and used by our bodies, or flushed out as a waste product.  On the flip side, when our digestive systems are sluggish and aren't working properly, food particles often get left behind.  It is believed that this food that gets left in the digestive system eventually creates a buildup that can produce toxins, which can then contribute to symptoms of fatigue and eventually be linked to many other illnesses. Sluggish digestion and sludge in the bowels  may also reduce our bodies efficiency in eliminating toxins and waste.

CleanStart is a comprehensive approach to cleansing the whole body. It contains laxative herbs to facilitate the cleansing of the intestinal tract. Soothing herbs blended into the formula help support gentle cleansing. Herbs that help rekindle the ability of the digestive system to properly handle digestion, absorption and waste elimination are also part of this product. Because the digestive system is not alone in the waste-elimination process, herbs for detoxifying the accessory organs (liver, gallbladder, pancreas) and the urinary system are incorporated into this formula. Blood purification is also an important aspect of body cleansing; hence, reputable blood-purifying herbs are also components of the CleanStart program.

Laxative Herbs

The laxative herbs in this formula help remove toxic debris that build up in the colon. Psyllium and fenugreek seeds are high in fiber and have a bulk laxative action, which helps support optimal gastrointestinal transit. Cascara sagrada, yellow dock, buckthorn and Turkey rhubarb are high in anthraquinones. These substances act on the large intestines, stimulating colon peristalsis to promote elimination.

Marshmallow, licorice, aloe and ginger soothe the digestive system while cleansing. Marshmallow root contains mucilaginous polysaccharides that help protect and soothe tissues. Licorice and ginger are reported to have antispasmodic and gastroprotective effects.

Sarsaparilla, red clover, echinacea, burdock, Oregon grape, couch grass, milk thistle and dandelion are purifying herbs in this pack. They are recommended for periodic “spring cleaning” of the body. Their mild diuretic effects are beneficial in promoting the elimination of toxins via the urinary system. In addition, sarsaparilla, through its sweat-promoting properties, enhances toxin elimination from the lymph and circulatory systems.

Bentonite and sodium copper chlorophyllin are detoxifying ingredients. Bentonite adsorbs toxins, facilitating their removal from the bowel. Sodium copper chlorophyllin is a green pigment found in almost all plants. It has been used to aid in the removal of various toxins via the liver and remains a key compound for improving the function of essential detoxification pathways.

Pepsin, capsicum, potassium citrate and lactobacillus help restore improved function of the digestive system. Anytime a deficiency of proteolytic enzymes exists, bits of undigested protein may remain in the body, causing difficulties. Pepsin supports efficient protein digestion and protects the intestines from foreign invaders. Capsicum is used to improve digestion and relieve occasional gastrointestinal problems. Potassium citrate plays a role in gastric secretion and enzyme reactions, helping to support digestion. Lactobacillus spores were thoughtfully blended into this cleanse to help re-establish the balance of these beneficial organisms. CleanStart is a thorough, yet gentle cleanse that is perfect for just about anyone. The ingredients in CleanStart are incorporated into a capsule packet and a powder drink mix packet (available in Apple-Cinnamon and Wild Berry flavors) that make cleansing easy and convenient.

A new kind of milk in your grocery? It has come to my attention that the dairy industry is now trying to put aspartame in our milk supply, and when it happens, you might not even know it. The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) and the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) have filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), asking them to change the definition of milk, as well as 17 other dairy products. The reason why the definition would have to be changed is that if they add aspartame to 'milk', it would no longer qualify to be called milk under the FDA's current definition.

Definition of Milk
The FDA's current definition of milk: “Milk is the lacteal secretion, practically free from colostrum, obtained by the complete milking of one or more healthy cows. Milk that is in final package form for beverage use shall have been pasteurized or ultrapasteurized, and shall contain not less than 81/4 percent milk solids not fat and not less than 31/4 percent milkfat. Milk may have been adjusted by separating part of the milkfat therefrom, or by adding thereto cream, concentrated milk, dry whole milk, skim milk, concentrated skim milk, or nonfat dry milk. Milk may be homogenized.”

Why would they even consider putting aspartame in milk?  Well, here's the kicker - it's all in the name of making a buck!  It seems that the consumption of milk is going down, especially flavored milk in schools, due to the high calorie content (think chocolate and strawberry flavored milk).  The NY Daily News reports that  other dairy products such as sour cream, evaporated milk, eggnog, half-and-half, and yogurt would also be up for swapping in the aspartame.

Isn't it bad enough that our milk now contains huge amounts of hormones, antibiotics and gentically modified organisms (GMOs) from GMO feed used for cows; not to mention whatever it is that is making the milk stay good for far longer than is natural!  These chemicals, hormones and antibiotics are doing a real number on our immune systems, and even (along with antibiotics in meats and chicken); and studies are showing that they are making us all antibiotic resistant to the superbugs that are going around.  We won't even talk about what it is doing to the cows.  A good movie to watch to find out more about what they are doing to our food supply is "Food, Inc."  which is available to watch for free on www.topdocumentaryfilms.com.

Now the dairy industry wants to put a pure poison (aspartame) into our milk, without even labeling it as such.  So how will you know if you are drinking milk that contains aspartame?  You wont!  They are saying that the milk would be helpful to all of the overweight kids???  Would it, or would it just be helpful to the milk producers to help them sell more milk?  An article in the Huffington Post says today that the campaign manager of SumofUs.org, issued a press release stating that, “Hyper-sweet additives like aspartame rewire children’s brains so that they always want sugary foods, turning the kids into tiny consumption machines." In an article on Wealth Daily, Jeff Seigel says,  "Bottom line: The government says you can't drink milk in its purest form, the way God created it, but you can drink a toxic cocktail of chemicals that a bunch of lobbyists and politicians have decided is in your best interest."

Aspartame Molecule

The sad part of all of this, is that aspartame is now in almost all chewing gum, many low calorie foods, and even most of the jello in restaurant salad bars.  Don't believe it?  Check it out for yourself.  Just ask your local restaurant if the jello on their salad bar is diet.  Here is a great article to read on the dangers of aspartame, and some studies that have been done:  http://www.decodedscience.com/aspartame-unlabeled-in-milk/26673/2

In my opinion, the biggest reason why there are so many overweight children, and adults in our society, is due to all of the chemically processed foods and junk foods, genetically modified foods (GMOs), and poison ingredients that are this country's poor excuses for food.  There is junk, and there is food; it either nourishes your body, or it is a dead junk product that does nothing but harm.  I believe that there are so many overweight people because they are starving their bodies of nutrition.  Did you know that anything that says, "enriched" means that the vitamins and minerals have been processed out, and their chemical counterparts have replaced them?  Yes, that's right, our food is "enriched" with chemicals.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to stay healthy and to stay away from all of the chemical laden foods and drinks in our society.  A lot of the foods that are served up to us American citizens are even banned from other countries!  Wake up America!!!

According to the Nature's Sunhine blog, "In 1822, the average American consumed 45 grams of sugar (the average amount of a 12-ounce soda) EVERY 5 DAYS. Today, Americans average 765 grams of sugar every 5 days and about 3 pounds of sugar every week!

And many still wonder why there's a rise in obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Refined sugar is linked to those things and hypertension, aching limbs, high blood pressure, depression, acne, headaches, fatigue, stiffening of arteries, violence, nervous tension and more. The American Heart Association recommends no more than 9.5 teaspoons of sugar per day and the average adult averages 22 teaspoons per day. And even worse, the average child averages 32 teaspoons per day."

Here is a great infographic from Online Nursing Programs that shows the sugar consumption issue very well.

There are some much healthier alternatives to sugar, like natural honey, molasses, xylitol and stevia.

According to Dr. Mercola, "The beginning of water fluoridation goes back to the Second World War, when massive amounts of toxic fluoride were manufactured for the bomb-making process. When fluoride waste products were released into the environment by the aluminum industry, they ended up killing entire orchards and herds of cattle.

Both the aluminum industry and the Manhattan Project realized they had a major toxic waste problem on their hands that would cost a lot of money to dispose of properly. So they declared fluoride not only safe, but beneficial, and sold the troublesome waste to municipalities across the U.S."

So, why are there so many overweight Americans?  It is an epidemic that has grown to unbelievable proportions in this country!  Let's take a  look at what is happening on the chart below.  We can definitely see a huge surge in obesity, but why?  Is it the food that is available to us?  What about the fact that they are marketing all sorts of chemical laden and GMO foods to our children, the people who are the future of this once great county.  It's sad what has happened to us as a people all in the name of big business and big money.

Why Americans are Fat

Are you overweight?  If so, you aren’t alone.  Almost two-thirds (about 66%) of U.S. adults age 20 or older are overweight.  Nearly one-third (about 31%) of American adults are obese.

Anatomy of the biliary tree, liver and gall bladder, Jiju Kurian Punnoose

Are you depressed, irritable or angry, low on energy, having difficulty sleeping, having eye problems, or feeling bloated?  It could be an imbalance in your liver.  Your liver plays a very important role in your overall health.  Many problems can occur with your health if your liver is functioning improperly.  In fact, the causes of the majority of health problems is linked to issues with the liver, digestive system and glands.

I actually worked at an EPA clean up site (old military weapons plant full of uranium and other toxins) for several years, and then developed liver and gallbladder problems, depression, lack of energy, and the list goes on.  Could there be a link to these issues and the toxins?  You can decide after reading this post.  The answers to the health problems I was experiencing ranged from antidepressants to gallbladder operation.  No one could tell me how to get rid of these toxins that I had been unknowingly exposed to.  I took matters into my own hands and began doing research on what I could do to help myself.  I personally would recommend that everyone be their own "toxin detective" to see what toxins they may be getting exposed to that are harming their health.  You take out the garbage in your home, what about your body?
Okay, so let’s take a look at what your liver actually does.  Your liver is the largest and most metabolically complex organ in your whole body.  Think of it as a storehouse for all of your nutrients.  What do you have stored in yours?
Your liver also helps you to digest your food and nutrients, and helps your body to detoxify from chemicals.  It also is a major player in the functioning of your immune system.  In essence, you liver is where bile is produced to emulsify and help with digestion of fats. It is also a storage unit for your blood, and nutrients, which it releases as needed; and it filters out toxins from the blood in your body.  Your liver also is responsible for making lipoproteins (cholesterol – LDL takes the fats to the tissues in the body, HDL brings them back to the liver) to transport fats throughout your body.  (In spite of what you may have heard, our bodies absolutely require good fats to function properly.)  It also helps your body maintain the proper blood sugar levels, and is a defensive line back to your immune system to help prevent infections.
Your Bodies 3 Main Defense Systems:
1.       The first line of your body’s  defense are the mucous membranes of your digestive and respiratory system.
2.       The second line of defense is your digestive system.  All blood from the digestive system is sent to the liver to process nutrients and send them where your body needs them, and to filter toxins.
3.       Toxins in the blood that get past the liver cause the glandular system to activate and push the toxins out, which makes the glandular system your third line of defense.
To find out if your body may be struggling with imbalances in your liver, you can download and take our Brilliant Body Assessment at:
·         Or take it online at www.mynsp.com/herbbarn (click on the yellow “Health Analyzer” Button”)
Some things that have been linked to liver imbalances are:
·         Difficulty digesting certain foods
·         Monthly female concerns (PMS, menstrual problems)
·         Regular consumption of alcohol
·         Food allergies
·         Smoking
·         Skin/complexion problems
·         Feeling down, uninterested or moody
·         Difficulty getting to sleep, lack of sleep
·         Fewer than 2 bowel movements per day
·         Daily consumption of fried foods
·         Restless sleep or waking up frequently
·         Feeling irritable or easily angered
·         Stuffy or bloated feeling under right rib cage
·         Difficulty digesting fats
·         Difficulty getting to sleep at night
·         Groggy feeling in the morning, difficulty waking up
·         Chemical sensitivities
·         Environmental illness
·         Working around chemicals
·         Eye problems
·         Feeling ill, but nothing shows up on medical tests (hypochondria)
Five Ways to Help Your Liver Function Better
1.       Keep Exposure to Environmental Toxins to a Minimum
2.       Use Herbs and Supplements That Help to Detoxify the Liver
3.       Let Go of Anger and Resentment (the liver is where anger and resentment are held in the body)  To see more about the mind/body connection:
4.       Increase Your Intake of Antioxidants
5.       Protect Your Liver with Hepatoprotective Herbs
According to the American Cancer Society, prior to the 20th century, only 1 out of 8,000 Americans got cancer, but since World War II, more than 80,000 chemicals have been developed, and now the statistics say that 1 out of 3 people get cancer.  The Center for Disease Control reports that cancer is also the leading cause of death in people between the ages of 45 and 75.
Toxins from chemicals, drugs and environmental pollutants are putting a heavy burden on our livers.  Reports now say that 80% of the toxins we are exposed to are from our own homes, and are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than environmental pollutants.
It is very important to limit the amount of toxins we are exposed to.  In my family, we have thrown away all poisonous cleaning products and personal care products and replaced them with biodegradable safe alternatives.
In addition to cleaning up your products, it’s a good idea to clean up the air in your home.  Most people, on average, can’t afford to put in a whole house air purifier, but there are some very good alternatives that work well.  The one  that we use is called a Boomerang Air Purifier.  It is available at www.mynsp.com/herbbarn (do a search for Boomerang).
You might also consider cleaning up your water with a good reverse osmosis system.  From our water, we can get chemicals, fluoride, chlorine, and yes, even parasites in some cases.  You can find a great one at www.mynsp.com/herbbarn (just do a search for Natures Spring).
Other harmful substances to avoid:
·         Drugs
·         Alcohol
·         Genetically modified foods (GMOs)
·         Food additives
·         Pesticides and other agricultural chemicals
·         Gasoline & solvents (petrochemicals)
·         Tobacco products
·         Chemicals in general
The liver needs vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other phytonutrients in order to do its job the correct way.  If your liver is extremely toxic you may need even more nutritional support.
When you begin to detoxify your body, you should be aware that as your liver detoxifies, you may feel tired and sluggish, and could even have some “healing crisis’” occur while your body is removing these toxins.  Some common indications of a “healing crisis” may be things like, cold symptoms, headache, skin itching and even digestive upsets.  It is only temporary, and is your body’s way of letting you know that it is working on something and getting rid of it.  Also, be aware that unless your body is able to eliminate toxins through one or several of your elimination systems, they remain trapped and can be a health hazard.  There are six parts of our bodies that work 24/7 to get rid of wastes, with 5 of them being organs of elimination:
1.       The colon
2.       The lungs
3.       The skin
4.       The lymph
5.       The kidneys
6.       And in addition the liver
Some supplements to consider if you believe that you have a toxic liver might be:
·         Indole-3-Carbinol
·         Milk Thistle Combination
·         Liver Balance
·         Heavy Metal Detox
·         Psyllium Hulls
·         Hepetic  System Pack (which includes several of the above in convenient packets)
All of the above products are available through www.mynsp.com/herbbarn
Now let’s take a look at antioxidants and what they can do to help protect the liver, especially during the detoxification process.  Note:  your eyes and liver use more antioxidants than any other areas of your body (eye problems can be an indicator of liver issues due to a lack of antioxidants.)
Food antioxidants include, dark green leafy vegetables (Chard, beet greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, etc.); cruciferous vegetables (Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.); Red beets; Lemon water; black cherries, blueberries, and other sour fruits.
Glutathione is also an very important antioxidant, one of the most important in the body.  Its job is to recycle other antioxidants; and to help detoxify and eliminate poisons in the liver, lungs, intestines, and kidneys.  It also helps protect liver and eye health.  Heavy metal toxins inhibit glutathione replenishing.  N-Acetyl-Cysteine is a precursor to glutathione and aids both liver and eye health
Thai-Go is a great way to get your antioxidants.  Sour fruits are said to tonify the liver chi in Chinese medicine.  Many of the antioxidant fruits in Thai-Go are used in Chinese medicine for liver and eye problems.  Thai-Go is an excellent liver protecting remedy
Other support products for liver detoxification:
·         Mood Elevator - Depression, low energy
·         Blood Stimulator - PMS, heavy menstrual bleeding, pale, weak
·         Gall Bladder Formula - Poor fat digestion (also consider Hi-Lipase), gall bladder problems
